M:LTS
Matter: Lapsed, Transferred & Stringed (M:LTS) is a series of animated gifs. Initiated by a curiosity to see how photos glitched by a hacked printer would translate in animated form, I printed screenshots of video stills captured on my iPhone. Can videos captured habitually, cut into stills, printed, and re-sequenced into a video loop reveal a new coded understanding of the original digitally captured memory? One artificially closer to human cognitive processing? The following are the first animated gifs—a selection of videos captured on my iPhone SE while living in Venice. The vertical format is that of the current standard for 24hr stories on social platforms; an obscure feed of private lived moments viewed by an unseen public, to be looped back into their private memory consumption. Seeking a sort of “mathematical sublime”, each animated gif draws attention to the un-encompassable within our moral norm.
